No payment is required to reserve.

Silk Painting - From Color to Creation

2-day workshop, each day is 2.5 hrs of instruction
$95 workshop fee +$20 materials fee directly to instructor

Spend two days learning the beautiful art of painting on silk, from mixing color and creating a design to completing your own finished piece.

Day 1: Learn + Experiment
Begin with the fundamentals of color theory and learn how to mix liquid dyes to create your own palette. You’ll practice applying gutta to silk, an essential technique for creating lines, patterns, and areas of color, and experiment with the materials before beginning your final piece.

Between sessions, you’ll have time to think about the design you’d like to create and bring a simple sketch with you the following day.

Day 2: Design + Create
Bring your own sketch or choose from one of Karen’s tropical designs. You’ll transfer your design to silk, apply gutta, and paint your final piece using the techniques you learned on Day 1.

Your finished silk will be steamed to set the dyes and completed as your choice of:

A framed silk artwork to display in your home
OR
A handmade eye pillow filled with flaxseed and optional lavender for aromatherapy.

Create something beautiful and personal to keep for yourself, or make a one-of-a-kind gift for a friend or family member.

You’ll leave with a finished piece you created yourself, plus the foundational skills to continue experimenting with silk painting for your own art and textile projects.
