Learn the art of making lei lāʻī using fresh ti leaves and traditional hand techniques.
In this introductory workshop, teaching artist Brynly will guide participants through the preparation and handling of ti leaves before demonstrating techniques for creating a beautiful, enduring lei. Participants will learn the hilo (twist) and/or hili (braid) method, depending on the format selected for the workshop.
The experience goes beyond simply making a lei. Brynly will introduce participants to thoughtful harvesting and preparation of ti leaves, as well as the traditions surrounding the giving and receiving of lei, proper storage, expected lifespan, and culturally appropriate disposal.
Each participant will leave with a completed ti leaf lei and a deeper understanding of the care, technique, and meaning behind lei making.

All materials will be prepared in advance and provided for the workshop.
Water bottle recommended.
Beginner. No previous lei-making experience is necessary.
