1-Day Workshop | WEDNESDAY - 1:30PM-5PM
July 29th
Weekday, 1 day | 3.5-hour session
Capacity: 12 participants maximum
Discover the luminous beauty of silk painting in this beginner-friendly workshop and create your own one-of-a-kind framed silk artwork.
Artist Karen Thrasher will introduce the fundamentals of silk painting, including transferring a design, applying resist, and building vibrant layers of transparent color. You'll begin by experimenting with color blending and simple techniques before creating your own design inspired by tropical flowers, foliage, or another simple composition. Please feel free to bring your sketchbook of ideas and inspiration.
Your artwork will be painted on silk, then professionally steamed to set the dyes. While the silk is being processed, you'll prepare and finish your display hoop. By the end of the workshop, you'll mount your completed silk painting into its frame and leave with a finished piece of art that's ready to hang and enjoy.
No previous painting experience is necessary. Whether you're discovering silk painting for the first time or simply looking to explore a new artistic medium, you'll leave with new creative skills and a beautiful handcrafted silk artwork inspired by the colors of Hawaiʻi.
A materials fee of $15 will be made payable to Karen Thrasher at your class.
All materials are provided.
No prior experience is necessary. All levels are welcome, from curious beginners to practicing artists looking to experiment in a supportive studio environment.
Waimea in Anekona, Hawai’i. Address and directions will be sent along with your confirmation email.
All registrations are non-refundable.
